Heartstrings

Heartstrings unveils sculptor Daniel dela Cruz’s worksfusing the female form with that of musical instruments, dela Cruz intentionally combines human and musical forms to create images denoting “where the woman begins and where the music starts, indistinguishable.”

In dela Cruz’s sculptures, metal and music is merged to create tributes to the female form. The artist likens his Muses to melodies, echoing this enchantment in his works. He devotes his craft to imbuing his sculptures with a very physical presence: bodies are voluptuous, sensuous in the weight of flesh and the solidity of gesture. Movement and melody is connoted their textures, the twists and turns of form.

Taking off from the personal and from the past, Dela Cruz writes about his works:

We all have them, unforgettable songs, songs which stick in our minds and in our souls. Songs which tug at our heartstrings and inspire us to greater endeavors and onto a higher plane. So are there women in our lives who have touched us with their own melodies. Their very beings music, an awakening to those who listen.

Mother, daughter, friend, lover, teacher and guide…Each melody is a part of their being, an inspiration to reach higher and even to seek God.

Highlighting his own personal memories of female figures—how they have contributed to the beauty and significance of experience—dela Cruz’s metal sculptures convey the intersecting beauty and sensuality of women and music.
